Stuart Black is a professional earth scientist and
the world's first satellite image artist. His brand
of art is instantly recognizable, a contemporary
fusion of ideas where nature provides the canvas,
landscape processes the design, and science the
vivid colors. Since 2000, Stuart has released four
collections of limited editions and artist proofs
including a 'best of'
series in 2008. Now, his highly anticipated
RENAISSANCE originals and private commissions
are set to mark the 10th anniversary of his work.

Stuart's work blurs the line between science and
art. Critics call it "
Modern
art at its finest. An original theme explored with
new technologies, without compromising the abstract
dimension."
As if by placing his palette high in orbit above the
planet, Stuart creates his work from data acquired
by satellites observing the Earth from 460 miles
away. These satellites measure properties of the
surface that we are unable to see with our own eyes
such as moisture, temperature and energy reflected
by rocks and plants.
Stuart builds each piece by first assigning his own
colors to these measurements. He then applies
proprietary algorithms to the resulting imagery to
accentuate the textural dimension. This scientific
technique and the myriad of spectacular geographical
features found on Earth are the ingredients for one
of the most distinctive art collections of all time.
Just like the theme behind his art collections,
Stuart's work has been exhibited all over the world
in cities such as London, Dubai, Chicago and
Scottsdale. This website showcases Stuart's 60 most
popular pieces from his 2000-2008 body of work and
his new 2010 collection.
